Doggie Paddle 2006
August 12, 2006: Once again, the good folks at the
Animal Care Trust
have pulled off the impossible: 200-some dogs and their people in a
public pool on a hot summer day, and great fun was had by all. We
noticed a wide diversity among Chattanooga's canine companions this
year. There were many Retrievers, enjoying both the water and the many
balls, of course, but the toy group was well represented as well, with
Pugs and Papillons and some tiny thing that looked suspiciously like a
guinea pig. I'm delighted to report that the Herding group was
well-represented, with shepherds from Germany, Austria, Belgium,
Scotland, and Wales. A surprising number of hounds, from Plott to Coon
to Wolf, were seen cavorting in and among the waters. Not to be outdone,
the ubiquitous and well-beloved All-Americans set the bar with their own
brand of shenanigans. All in all, quite the party. Eternal thanks to
Donna Deweese and all the folks at ACT and the
McKamey Animal
Care and Adoption Center. If you haven't been thanked enough for all
you did to pull this off, consider this photo gallery my witness and
testament to a fabulous day for the dogs of Chattanooga and their
people. Please, oh please, do it again next year! -- Bev Eitner
