Daycare Photo Journal
March 2008:
Two years ago, I retired from the State of Tennessee with 30 years
service. Like a lot of other baby boomers, I didn't plan to really
retire. I just wanted to leave the stress behind and go in a different
direction. I found that opportunity in the Little Dog Department at PDX.
The last two years have been two of the best years of my life. I knew I
would love working with the dogs, but I had no idea I'd fall in love
with them. I found myself thinking about them all the time. I dreamed
about them at night. I told stories about them, and showed their
pictures to all my friends and family. I found myself laughing out loud
about what they did that day, and about how cute and conniving they
could be. The icing on the cake has been getting to know the little dog
parents. Their involvement and support has been outstanding, and I have
come to love them nearly as much as I love their dogs.... nearly!
I am blessed to work with a great team of co-workers
who come to work every day, not for the money, Lord knows, but for the
dogs. I'm fortunate to have supervisors and trainers who teach me what
they've learned, and make themselves available when I need help with
challenging situations.
Some days can be a bit overwhelming, even a little
frustrating. On those days, I remind myself of something Bev and Nancy
both told me early on: "Our goal here is for every dog to be a success
and have a positive experience." Even on their worst day, we want them
to know that they're loved and cared for, and that we can't wait to see
them come back the next time. Thank you for sharing your dogs with all
of us, and thank you for two years of pure joy. -- Leanne "Teacher" Lyon
