Daycare Photo Journal

May 2007: We have a banner over the entrance to our lobby, which reads: "For those who understand, no explanation is necessary. For those who don't, no explanation will suffice." I put it there a while back as a sort of slam on the scoffers who shake their heads when they hear about such frippery as dog daycare, canine performance competitions, discussion boards for dog lovers, holistic veterinary care, and all that hooey. I confess to a tiny bit of snobbery there. Those of us for whom no explanation is necessary can all gather together here at PDX with other like-minded folk, and view the rest with just a bit of superiority. And yet, I come to find myself outside the circle again, dang it. Angie gifted us with a subscription to Modern Dog magazine, and now I'm one of those for whom no explanation will suffice. To wit: I am not tempted to buy Cris a pair of tennis shoes. I have no desire to see how Cate would look in a wig. Likewise, I can't fathom why anyone would actually pay good money for Neuticles. I guess they must, but somehow I'm waiting for Peter Funt to pop up and yell "Gotcha!". Turns out there are many other things I don't get: doggie weddings, paying Tibetan monks a hundred bucks for a doggie prayer ceremony, and breed-specific dog topiaries, just to name a few. Heck, I'm still puzzled over those blueberry facials. But they say that knowledge is the key to success, so I'll try faithfully to keep up with the latest. Who knows? Maybe my guys really do need $12,000 canopy beds... or not!! -- Bev
