Daycare Photo Journal

October 2006: "What a great job you guys have!!" If I could have a dollar for every time we heard that, we'd be opening up PDX the Island in the Caribbean. Daycare and boarding free as air, and we'd have charter jets to shuttle your dogs hither and thither. Happy thoughts, happy thoughts... But my point, yes.

We do have a cool job, but we are ultra-aware of how important it is for us to be 120% on-the-ball, because the consequences of failure are unbearable. Daycares can and do lose dogs: to fights, fence-jumping, escapes due to improper handling procedures... a whole lot of things can go wrong. And, although we know that bad things can happen to good people and dogs, our promise to ourselves and our clients is to do everything possible to ensure that those bad things don't happen, not here, not on our watch. The key to success is part Operations, part Facilities, but the biggest part is in our heads: keeping safety our #1 priority, and staying current on All Things Dog. Cases in point: Nancy has just returned from the 2006 APDT conference in Kansas City, where she got some great new ideas, as well as validation for what she's already doing. Robin is apprenticing toward her trainer certification. Be already has her CPCT certification from the American Boarding Kennel Association. Julie is working toward her CPDT certification, and already has trainer credentials from the Animal Behavior College. Leanne reads everything she can get her hands on, and Cris and I (and now the Spawn of Evil, Cate) continue our adventures into the performance arena with agility, flyball, rally, and formal obedience training, teaching, and competition. All together, we're constantly working to extend our network of contacts, improve our understanding of dogs, and make PDX of Chattanooga the very best dog daycare and training enterprise on the planet. Well, second best anyway. Maybe Nancy will hit the lottery and we'll get that island thing going!  --  Bev
